@cloevinThis is on the CORE server. IIS is certainly installed, though I can't say with certainty that it's configured correctly , its mostly using the default LANDesk 9.6 IIS installation.

The default LDMS IIS setup should be sufficient. Even if IIS was not installed on the preferred server, the client should detect that and switch to UNC. This is a built-in feature on the client.
